Thanks to you both for some really good exercises. We've started using them all. I entered a trial (probably too soon) before I asked the questions... Poppy earned her first leg of her CD in Portland, OR last weekend. Yea! We learned a lot…

The Kim Collins- From the Ground up is a great place to start. All of our puppy foundation classes are modeled after that. I think that you are on the right track- keep things fast, and fun. Crate games are always the best place to start with…

Where to start

So Dinah is home and eager to learn. Where do you start? Favourite references?I have been working on eye contact, a release word, sit for everything, hand targeting, playing and tugging. She is absolutely brilliant.I have the Kim Collins Foundation book as well as the Janice Gunn video, Crate games by Susan GarrettWhat do others recommend. I am hoping to get into a puppy class soon but she is already 4 months.See More

Traveling Question

In April Bug and I will be traveling to Pennsylvania for the CWCCA Specialty. I am wondering what information people typically include or do NOT include on their dog's crate while traveling. I feel like this is something I should have done in the past given we frequently travel a few hours away for trials. however, this will be our longest trip and I want to be prepared. My thoughts are:photocolorweightvet informationmy informationalternate contact informationphoto copies of vaccine records…See More

Like Amanda said I would do a lot less with the leash. When I'm teaching heel, I actually don't even put a lead on so the dog learns the position and his job right from the get go sans lead. I use a lot of food and random reinforcers. I…

new here

Hi! Julie (with Bug) told me about this group but it took me a while to join. I have 1 cardigan- Monty who just turned 5. I've had him for 2.5yrs. I got him from his breeder after he had been returned due to some food aggression issues, rehabbed him and he decided to stay with me for good. He's a fun little dog and gets along great with my 2 flat coats, Niche and James. We did some therapy dog stuff for a while, as he loves kids, and he knows a lot of agility stuff (still working on weaves),…See More

lots and lots of food! :o) really, heeling is all about variable rewards and placement of said rewards. Try training without a leash more- so that you aren't able to use it to correct her. She has to want to heel with you because like you…

Heeling Exercises and Stay!

Poppy and I have been working for almost a year (taking formal obedience classes) to get ready to try for a CD (a first for both of us). So if I don't have the termiology correct... please excuse my ignorance. :)Here are my issues...1. Heeling: What are some whys to motivate her to heel and not lag. She's doing very well on leash but really lags or fades away off leash. Hard collar corrections just don't work with her as she will shut down. I am using my voice and treats but when we hit the…See More

Rudy learned with the bang game, and he LOVES the teeter. Bella learned by a bizarre method by my first instructor who shouldn't really be teaching anyone anything. She still loves to go to the tipping point of the teeter and then stand there…

Starting New

I haven't done much tracking at all- only three or four times with my own dogs at seminars, or with friends or whatever. But- I'd really like to start Pixel (and possibly the others) as I think it's something that I can do easily enough on my own and I think Pixel would be great at it...I do have friends who train tracking, and they have offered to help me but it just keeps getting put off. So- I am going to start myself this weekend- any tips, suggestions, or thoughts?See More

Welcome!

My hope for this forum is to create a place where like-minded people can talk about the things we do with our dogs.

Corgis (both kinds) are fabulous working dogs that are often overlooked in the agility field and the obedience ring. Competitive Corgis are few and far between so I hope that this forum will bring people together so we can talk about the challenges, the training, and the triumphs of competitive dog sports and our short dogs.

This is a place for all levels of dogs- from the raw novice to the serious competitor. Everyone is welcome. (as long as they play nice!)
